What To Do With a World Gone Mad?

In her wonderful book Conversations With Blob, author Lana Penrose enjoys witty, lighthearted dialogue with the character of Blob –  an extraordinarily wise being with an intriguing and empowering take on the great questions of LIFE.

Given the current chaos unfolding on our beautiful planet, Lana went directly to Blob for a little insight and advice…

What might Blob have to say about the planet, I hear you ask?

Firstly, Blob lurves to remind us to tread lightly upon the Earth. He humbly suggests that we always keep the Earth in mind, rather than focus solely on our personal wants and needs. Think about the planet’s magnitude, intensity and beauty; how miraculous it is; how it turns with incredible reliability; how it plays host to creatures, great and small, their eyes shiny with innocence.

He urges us to call to mind an image of our world from space – so radiant, mysterious and breathtaking. When we do this and extract the human drama playing out upon it, we begin to realise that the Earth endures with unbelievable devotion and tranquillity. By calling this image to mind, devoid of the turmoil being imposed upon it by its inhabitants – or, rather, by its inhabitants’ egos – we view our globe in its purest form. By returning to this pristine image often, we help to restore sanctity to our enchanted playground.

Of course, Blob wouldn’t simply leave it at that, because he always likes to take things a step or two further! This imagery doesn’t only apply to the world, but to our true selves. In truth, are we not immense, beautiful, miraculous, reliable, innocent, radiant, mysterious and breathtaking? Do our spirits not endure with unbelievable devotion and tranquillity? Are we not pure in essence?

Blob would urge us to reflect on these ideas, to respect the Earth and ourselves, to see everything for what it really is as we parlay into transcendence and assimilate what the Desiderata suggests – “Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.”
